With the well-known issue of sexual assault in the U.S. gymnastics team, more instances of sexual assault in sports are coming to light. From coaches to team doctors, there have been many instances of sexual assault and harassment in sports, ranging from all ages and genders. Although the scandal in the U.S. gymnastics team was due to the team doctor, a lot of the time, sexual harassment in sports can come from peer athletes, rather than officials or coaches themselves, although coach offenders are still regrettably common. Sexual assault in sports can impact athlete performance and cause immense PTSD as any sexual assault would. With sexual assault in sports with coaches, they tend to form relationships with athletes, which can turn into extremely unhealthy and horrible sexual harassment, often abusing power and manipulating athletes, which can further complicate things, which are not as often found in sexual harassment outside of sports.
